Maya is known for powerful animation tools and Blender 3d is known best free 3d modeling software.
Today I share some differences between Blender and Maya, pros and cons to find that which software is the best fit for your next project.

1. System Requirments
Maya is a completed 3d package that’s why you need a high configuration PC to run Autodesk Maya without lag.

2. Software Cost
Blender is completely free for commercial and non-commercial projects forever whereas Autodesk Maya is costly software.
Maya is free for students and Educators. For Commercial Projects, you need to buy Maya. If you have a very tight budget, you can Buy Maya LT, It’s affordable but limited in features.

Everyone knows that is Maya is not lag-free. Most times Autodesk Maya crashes even on high configuration PC.
Unfortunately, Maya is not good in performance compared to Blender.
4. 3D Modeling
Blender modeling is quite easy because of awesome modeling tools, modifiers, etc.
Maya is a little bit complicated for first-time users. Once you understand Maya UI, Maya modeling is easier for you.
Maya have also great modifier that helps you to make complex shapes easily. Maya is very good at Character modeling.

5. Sculpting Tools
Blender and Maya both have awesome sculpting tools. But Blender is a lot better than Autodesk Maya in sculpting.
Blender has a great list of sculpting tools. Some of the Blender sculpting features are Multi-resolution sculpting, dynamic topology sculpting, mirrored sculpting, etc.
Maya is great for character modeling but Maya sculpting tools are not better than Blender.
6. Rigging and Animation
Maya has very advanced and easy-to-use rigging and animation tools. Most professional animators recommended Autodesk Maya for rigging and animation.
Blender also has great rigging and animation tools but they are not powerful compared to Autodesk Maya.
Maya is a lot better at Animation than Blender, especially in Character Animation.
Blender and Maya both have great simulation tools. Blender has good simulation tools whereas Autodesk Maya has very advanced simulation tools.
Some of the Blender simulation features are particle creation, effect creation, rigid body, etc.
Some of the Maya simulation features are physically accurate simulation, interactive hair grooming, Bifrost, advanced effect creation.
Maya is a great retopology tool that name is Quad Draw.
Maya Quad Draw is very popular for manual retopology and Maya has automatic retopology and reduces polygon tool also.
Blender has very advanced retopology tools such as Remesh, Voxel which is similar to ZBrush Zremesher.
Blender also has a Quad Remeshed tool that is an alternative to the Maya quad draw tool.
Blender has two default rendering engines: Cycle, and EVEEE.
The cycle rendering is a raytraced rendering engine whereas EVEEE is a real-time rendering engine.

If you are using Maya 2016 or higher, you need to download and install Mental ray separately.
10. Blender vs Maya for Games
Autodesk Maya and Blender both are good for games. gaming Industries, Maya is used for animation whereas Blender 3d is used for modeling.
11. Maya LT vs Blender
Maya LT is great software but limited in features. If you are using Maya to create games models, it’s good.
But if you need Maya advanced features such as XGEN, VFX tool then you can use Maya full version or Blender because these features are not available in Maya LT.
