Hard Surface Modeling

Hard Surface modeling in Blender

Now let’s add a texture to our cube.
First, we need to create a new image file.
In the menu bar, go to File > New.
In the new window, set the width and height to 512×512.
Click on the Advanced tab and set the Format to PNG.
Name the file “textures/cube.png”.
Now, let’s add the texture to our cube.
In the 3D View, select the cube.
In the Properties panel, scroll down to the Textures tab.
Click on the New button and select the textures/cube.png file.
The texture will be applied to the cube.
Hard Surface Modeling in Maya

- Select the top face of the cylinder and delete it.
- With the remaining faces of the cylinder selected, delete them.
Hard Surface modeling in Zbrush
There are many ways to approach hard surface modeling in Zbrush. In this tutorial we will use the Dam standard brush to create a simple robot.
- Start by creating a new document in Zbrush and selecting the Dam standard brush.
- In the main menu, select Geometry>Create PolyMesh and create a sphere.
- Switch to the Move brush and scale the sphere up to about 60% of its original size.
- In the main menu, select SubTool>Convert to Polymesh and then delete the original sphere.
- Switch to the Dam standard brush and start shaping the robot.
- When you are finished, switch to the Clay Buildup brush and add some details.
- When you are finished, switch to the Standard brush and add some final details.
- When you are finished, use the Zapplink brush to export the model to a 3D file format.
